AL-EMS for aluminium melting and holding furnaces
ABB’s AL-EMS, Electromagnetic Stirring System has been developed specifically for aluminium melting and holding furnaces. It is a proven technology that enhances chemical and thermal homogeneity and reduces cycle times and dross formation. Higher melt rates and lower energy consumption are other benefits. AL-EMS allows for a more compact furnace design: the bath height can be increased and the furnace area reduced, while a high-level heat transfer to the melt is still maintained.
Force measurement products
ABB’s force measurement and control products are based on well-proven, accurate and reliable technologies – the Pressductor® technology and the Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) technology.
Stressometer Flatness Control Systems. Direct and Parallel Measurement (DPM) provides accurate measurement, undisturbed by strip tension variations, as soon as the rolling starts.
Millmate Thickness Gauging Systems (MTG). With a robust design and construction, completely unaffected by harsh mill conditions such as steam, coolants, dirt, etc., the MTG system gives very accurate on-line thickness measurement of rolled non-ferrous metals. The dedicated Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) measurement technology uses weak magnetic fields for non-contact measurement and, furthermore, is independent of the material being rolled.
Monitoring and communication
ABB has expanded its ControlIT range of products to include the AC800RMC controller, which has been developed specifically to meet the distinctive requirements posed by cold rolling mills and strip processing lines. The modular, scalable controller and its software constitute a versatile IndustrialIT package for aluminium rolling mills. It can be used for both simple control tasks and sophisticated technological control systems.
